Jazz Band Workshop - CRU Galston

Friday 8th March 2024:  6pm – Saturday 9th March 2024:  8am 

The Jazz Band workshop is held in the evening at CRU Galston after the Friday component of Band Camp at TPS.

We will be using parents’ cars to transport Jazz Band students from TPS to CRU Galston.

The Band Camp permission form covers the whole of Band Camp including the workshop on Friday night and permission to travel in parents’ cars. No separate permission forms are required.

The Senior Jazz Band manager will send an email to all Senior Jazz Band parents asking for:

• Volunteers to drive the students to Band Camp on Friday and/or sleepover on Friday night

• Pizza preferences for dinner on Friday night

• Nomination of a friend to travel with to Band Camp in the cars

Packing List Add-ons for Jazz Band

• Snacks for your child to have before going to CRU Galston (at TPS) - they will have 30 minutes before departing TPS, and it's useful to have some food and perhaps a quiet book or game while they wait to depart

• extra casual clothes for Friday night

Senior Jazz Band students will need to have their suitcase at school for departure at 5.15pm on Friday.  They can either:

• bring their suitcase to school and leave at the back of the stage in the Hall during the day 

• have a parent drop it to school on Friday afternoon and leave in at the back of the stage in the Hall

Recommendation that the students DO NOT bring a school bag on Friday as students will need to bring it with them to CRU Galston, and it is just one more item that could potentially get lost. Instead, lunch boxes and school bag items could be in a small bag that can be tucked into their luggage.

Jazz Band Program

• 4.45 - 5.15pm: Meet under the Year 5/6 COLA

• 5.15pm: Students depart school for CRU Galston

• 6 - 6.30pm: Pizza Dinner at CRU Galston. Parents set up rooms for workshops

• 6.30 - 7.30pm: Part 1 of Jazz workshop commences

• 7.30 - 7.45pm: Rest break

• 7.45 - 8.30pm: Part 2 of Jazz workshop

• 8.30pm: Supper provided by CRU Galston

Jazz Band Volunteers

Thank you for volunteering to help with the Jazz Band evening and/or overnight!

Friday 4:45 - 8pm

• This shift begins at TPS at 4:45pm. Here you will load your cars with the children, their luggage and instruments (car allocation will be arranged prior to Band Camp by the Jazz Band manager).

• At 5:15pm you will leave for CRU Galston. As our CRU site access begins at 6pm, there is no need to leave earlier.

• At CRU you can drive into the camp following the driveway, drop off the kids and their belongings at Band Camp Central then follow the drive as it loops back to the carpark.

• The remainder of the shift will be spent setting up rehearsal and tutorial spaces.

• Dinner will be provided - you get to join in the Jazz Band pizza party!

Friday overnight 8pm - 8am

• Your shift takes place entirely at CRU Galston. 

• Please remember to bring a sleeping bag or sheets/blankets and a pillow.

• Supper and breakfast will be provided by CRU Galston.
