Children wear their band shirt with sports shorts to school on Friday and go straight to the school Hall. Here they will store their instruments and put their music stands into the allocated crates. There will be parents there to guide the children. For children attending OOSH - OOSH staff will accompany children to the Hall.
Band members then proceed like on any other school day, attending class until after lunch.
Children will eat their lunch at the normal time so can have a canteen lunch order on this day.
At 1:15pm, there will be an announcement over the school speaker. At this time, all band members take their school bags and head to the top COLA and assemble in their band groups. After an introductiory speech and roll call, the students will then be guided to collect their instruments from the Hall then on to their activities.
Throughout the afternoon, students will participate in a program of instrument tutorials, band rehearsals and recreational activities.
Afternoon tea will be provided.
Parents can collect their children from 4:45pm from the top COLA.
All children must be signed out. Please do not leave without having your child's name marked on the roll!
It is each parent’s responsibility to notify OOSH if your child normally attends OOSH on a Friday that they will not be in attendance.
Collection times:
Junior Band, Intermediate Band, Performance Band: 4:45pm
Jazz Band: they will head directly to CRU Galston. They do not need to be collected.
Don’t forget to take instruments home with you on Friday afternoon and bring them to Band Camp. Please DO NOT leave them in the Band storeroom or at OOSH!
Children will sleep at home and head to CRU Galston the next morning.
Zone Swimming -> In previous years the zone swimming carnival has fallen on the Friday of Band Camp. We have been able to successfully manage this year by year. The school always provides us with a list of students in zone so we can manage roll calls.
On Friday night, Jazz Band members will attend a Jazz workshop at CRU Galston with Mr Tim Rowland.
Jazz Band has their usual rehearsal on Friday morning so they can bring their luggage with them and leave it in the Hall before rehearsal begins. After rehearsal, they can take their instrument to the Hall for storage until Band Camp begins.
It is recommended they bring only a small school bag so there is less to carry over the weekend.
Jazz Band parents will drive the students to CRU Galston. Your Band Manager will arrange this prior to Camp.
The students will sleep over at CRU. Please pack extra clothing for this night.
Dinner and Breakfast will be provided.

Band families are to make their own way to CRU Galston for Day Two of Band Camp.
Please ensure the children have breakfast before they leave home, as they have a very busy schedule for the remainder of the day.
Arrival times are according to a staggered drop off system:
Arrival times:
Junior Band: 7:40 - 8am
Intermediate Band: 8 - 8:20am
Performance Band: 8:20 - 8:40am
If you have more than one child, you can register both at the early band arrival time.
On arrival, there will be tables set up, one for each band. Go to your corresponding band table and make sure your child is signed in. They will then be given a lanyard to wear for the weekend that includes their timetable and room information.
Luggage is to be placed on the trailer for your relevant band (this can be done before or after registration).
If your child has a large instrument eg Euphonium, Tuba, this can be put on the instrument trailer. Other instruments are to be kept with the child and carried into the Gym.
Following sign-in proceed to the Dietary table where all students are given a coloured wristband to signify their dietary needs (including those without specific requirements).
If your child has medication, this can be handed in at the Medical table.
The students then gather in the Gym until Camp begins, under supervision of rostered parent volunteers.
When they arrives at CRU Galston on Saturday morning, each student will be given a lanyard. This has their name, band, instrument, tutorial room and cabin and a timetable for the weekend. Students are to wear this at all times during the weekend.
Saturday includes full band rehearsals and instrument tutorials plus recreation activities run by CRU Galston staff.
In the evening there is a super fun disco and alternative Games Room - a weekend highlight!
All students will stay overnight at CRU in cabin accommodation.
Lunch, Dinner, Morning and Afternoon Tea, and Supper are all provided.
The children stay in cabins of four rooms, each with bunk beds and an ensuite. Rooms are allocated by year group and gender, and in discussion with the school.
If your child is not happy to stay overnight, prior notification must be given to the Band Camp Coordinator in writing via email.
You can collect your child from CRU Galston at the conclusion of the Saturday night activity: 8pm for Years 3 and 4 students, 8:30pm for Years 5 and 6. Due to child protection requirements and the well-being of all Camp participants, this will be the ONLY time children may be collected and taken home on Saturday evening. Children staying after this time must remain at the campsite all night.
Children who have slept at home on Saturday night are welcome to join us at 8am, for breakfast, otherwise they must return by 8:30am Sunday morning.
